Details

Olive Park is now 60% sold. They are still hoping for a move-in date in August but I still think that date needs to be taken with a grain of salt -- city permitting could hold things up for some time.

I don't know about you, but I can't WAIT to move in...

How do you know they're still planning August? And how much broker-speak (hey! guess the initials on that term) went into that August prediction?

Also, while I'm commenting, so where'z everyone living in OP? I'm 3K.

i've heard 'late summer', 'early fall', and 'sometime in july or august'

I WAS at the open house on sunday! although after Andy - i got there around 2pm. and totally FORGOT to take photos!!! silly me - the gym looked awesome. the pool looks great - although it didn't seem to be filled all the way and the kiddie rope scared the hell out of me... it's a pretty tiny pool to begin with and then they cut it in half... Well if they are going to allow kids (to pee) in the pool, i vote for allowing dogs!!! ;)

It did seem like they did A LOT of work since i was there last (except in my apt- which still doesn't have any appliances)

btw - my name is rachel - i'll be living in 5A. hopefully VERY soon! i CANT wait.

Hey -- So We're in 5M so I guess we'll be seeing a lot of you Rachel :-)

As for the move in date, the guy I talked to seemed pretty confident that all the work was going to be done in July/August. He did, however, warn that city permitting can always cause hang ups so apparently they have their excuse all ready. I don't know abot you guys but I just keep getting more and more excited!

Well, if you had been watching the progress on your building and the shoddy, slow work they've had unprofessional workers doing all this time in unsafe conditions ( I loved the time a guy stood on the wall next door, swinging a girder above their child's head, or the time we all got showered with styrofoam from the cheap labor cutting cheap insulation material for your windows), you'd probably not be holding your breath for August

You are aware that those external beams suddenly appeared one day after all work stopped, right?

Also, note the position of those two air conditioning units next to the "meditation pool". They're going to be loud enough to generate two things, the ire of those trying to meditate and law suits from the home owners surrounding the development.

But you can watch all the fun proceed from the roof deck - you did pay for a roof deck right?

Wish you all the best - but seriously, you might want to think twice about having a post about the history of Cooper Park, when you're part of a building that's ruining the atmosphere of it.

I apologize for the tone of the above comment, it's not the place for it - it's not your fault that the building's developers have put us all through hell while it went up.

Just erase the comment and have a great time in the new place - it's a wonderful neighbourhood with friendly, smart (and sometimes angry :) ) neighbours - a much improved park, and at least a little bit of sky that can be seen.

Watch out for White Castle after a night at Harefield Road, as it will come back to haunt you the next morning

Cheers - and sorry again

well, that's was uncalled for.

Hi Anonymous -- I'm gonna go ahead and leave your posts up. I've lived near construction sites before and I can totally empathize with your current hatred of all things Olive Park. That said, please remember that we aren't part of the current process ... we are, however, part of your future.

I think it's important for people moving in to Olive Park to realize there may be some resentment toward us. All the more reason we should go out of our way to be good neighbors and make an extra effort to ingratiate ourselves with the members of the community.

The last thing I want to say on the subject is that I've seen Cooper Park evolve. I used to live in the neighborhood nearly a decade ago -- before Harefield Road was open when the only place to have a drink in the area was the old poor house. 87 units being opened right on the park will change things but that's just the nature of any city ... things change. I know I like Cooper Park more now than I did a decade ago. I hope everyone in the neighborhood will like it even more (and certainly not less) after our building opens up.

Oh, and last-last thing: No, i didn't buy one of those private roof decks -- the prices are ridiculous! :-)

Anybody have some news about our closing dates?

i spoke to my broker last friday - he said everything is still on time, although he said expected dates are early september... I guess it depends on who you speak to. I've been checking the nyc.gov website on the progress of c/o status. It looks like there are still 46 items to pass inspection before the c/o is granted... Not sure if that is good or bad or how long it will take to get those items checked off. go to :

http://a810-bisweb.nyc.gov/bisweb/COApplicationSummaryServlet?requestid=1&passjobnumber=301833791&passdocnumber=01&allisn=0000970659&allbin=3070234

I was actually thinking about starting either a yahoo or google group for new olive park residents to chat on. Not that i'm criticizing Andy's blog... Infact it's totally awesome that he got his act together and set it up.... I just think maybe more residents may find a google or yahoo page. Also, i don't like how on blogspot, we can only respond to blog entries that the owner (andy) posts... it makes it difficult to see when there are new messages as they appear at the bottom of the previous messages.

I'll post the address of the group shortly...

Did you read that article in the Sunday NYT last week as well? I've been meaning to get a Google group started ever since I read that article... just haven't found the time yet. Thanks for helping out -- it's a great idea!

August/September seems to be the consensus among all the Apt&Loft folks. I sure hope they're right cause my lease is up Aug 31!

So i just set up a yahoo group for Olive Park (picked yahoo, just because all of the mailing lists i belong to are on yahoo) Please go to and join Olive Park

Yeah, i totally read that article! It was awesome, for anyone that missed it, you can check it out the NYTimes article that Andy is referring to.

well i gotta go post some kind of intro on the group. have a good night!

Andy, this is a great Blog for those already IN OP, those who live in the neighborhood and certainly for those who are thinking of buying into OP. I appreciate your response to the person who posted their fruistration about the transition. I also wanted to give them kudos for posting a 2nd note to let us know it's not personal.
I lived in London Terrace for many years, owned a studio, it was sad to see the hookers be moved, the big ugly buildings go up against the water, the galleries take over and become SOHO, the shoddy brownstowns get swooped up for dirt prices and renovated, and of course Chelsea Piers and the surrounding area, in some ways it was GREAT! But the change freaked me and I High Tailed OUTTA there....NOW? I regret it, the fact is, who knew that was going to happen HUGE ALL OVER NYC? So, if I can get in on a new building that has a park outside the door for my loving dog, a building with many of the amenities I enjoyed in LT and not have mice, roaches, etc...I am HAPPY to have the opportunity! For those in the neighborhood, I hope we can all make friends, I know I will do my best!
Hope to be posting my neighbor status very soon!

HI there, this is Matt & Sandy from Apartment 3P. Cool blog, hope we run into you in the building one day at the pool. We should all get together and have a new residents party to break in the building :)
